The Schools We Need Project

Because some students need more than direct instruction.

Kids are at the center!

What if there were schools designed to motivate kids?

What if these schools could help districts address problems like these:
  • reengaging over aged, underachievers
  • reducing minority isolation
  • supporting reluctant and struggling learners
  • promoting economic development
  • educating students who don't learn the way schools often teach

The Schools We Need Project is part of a partnership to create those schools.

The Schools We Need Project is a partnership between ResulTech, Inc., a company that works with jurisdictions to create innovative schools designed to motivate students, and the Maine Center for Meaningful Engaged Learning (McMEL), a center at the University of Maine at Farmington that is providing educational program design services to ResulTech, as well as studying other engaging schools.

SWN schools recognize that their students benefit from learning experiences that are interesting, meaningful, and experiential. Students learn well when they are involved in hands-on work that relates to their lives and the world in which they live.

ResulTech applies the lessons of the Schools We Need Project and strives to create schools that motivate students through positive relationships, real world learning, a focus on job and career training, and technology-rich environments. Clients select our solutions as efforts to reengage disaffected and at-risk youth, as interventions to reduce minority isolation, and as economic development initiatives. We currently have projects in Philadelphia, PA; Chester, PA; Fairbanks, AK; Buffalo, NY; and Ringgold, GA. We are a leader in providing innovative educational programs.

Evidence from the field proves the effectiveness of the program. Our first ResulTech school's non-traditional program engaged students in learning standards-based content via real world learning. In May 2007, the school participated in two external evaluations. Find out what they had to say:
